The week started yet again from me working home and sketching more designs about my John Peel website. The week before I created some thumbnails of them but didn’t really go into much detail. I knew that this week at college we was having to do 2 digital designs our work and only ever using PageMaker once I thought I’d have no chance. Over the weekend I found myself flicking through various magazines and cutting out bits I liked the colour of (I just need some glue to stick them in my notebook now!!!)
Hardly settled in on Wednesday morning and just got told to crack on with our projects, which just suited me as I felt I needed to do a good bit of work on it. Just after finishing some designs at sketching and finishing the colour schemes off I thought I was lagging behind some of the other students a bit so I decided to try the dreaded PageMaker. I have never used a design program like this before, most of the class was complaining too as they seemed more used to Photoshop but I haven’t even used that before so I just got on with testing some of the features that Steve showed us last week.
After a few minutes testing things out I decided to just crack on with it and get my sketches actually on screen. This didn’t really take me as long as I’d expected and after doing more in PageMaker I was finding it more and easier to use and after making guidelines I was off and running.
I finished the main screen quite fast but I still wasn’t really happy so I went back and re did my guidelines so the site could be more accurate. After completing that and thinking I had done a good job of it I started on the feedback form, this was even easier because I had the main page template already and just edited a bit and cracked it quite fast.

This is an example of my attempt in Pagemaker
Thursday was just the same, just cracked on with our work. We got into our feedback groups in the library and gave each other comments on our work just before we was going into see Steve. I did actually notice when they pointed out that a lot my work was actually out of line. So it was good to get some feedback (and some of it was good).
Was looking forward to going to see Steve in our groups, I look forward to these most because I always come away from it setting myself more tasks after seeing what other people have done and also the feedback of Steve. If I didn’t have these feedback groups I’d just get all confused and proberly lose my way in the course like I have done in the past at other college courses.
I feel much more confident in PageMaker now and I’m looking forward to getting to grips with the other programs we will be going to use over the year.
